Lyric and Blake: A brief review

Lyric and BlakeLyric and Blake by V. Nikki Jones
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lyric and Blake is exactly what you’d think a short novel about pre-teens would be: full of messy, smart-alecky kids trying to figure out who they are and how to get through the next class period. What’s most compelling about Lyric and her new best friend Blake is that they both like girls and often dress like boys. While they are relatively comfortable with their sexual orientation and gender identity, not everyone around them feels the same way, especially the cliquish kids at Alcorn Junior High. Lyric and Blake find themselves in several sticky situations, but their loyalty to each other and support from their families see them through the drama of their first year of junior high school.
